About Diana Friend
I turn my locally sourced wood with solar power on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest. Teased by complex bark and intense grain; cracks and voids then become a further draw. These elements are the design cues I follow to create each piece. As the work spins, the joys of exploration guide my final forms. Occasionally, these delightful imperfections are preserved by carefully placed hardwood ties which add a discreet elegance. When held in one’s hands; gentle curves and soft finishes are the final reward.
