About Joseph Graci
I create carved wood wall sculptures and objects often made from sawmill waste with both hand and power tools. The wood is often worked green then allowed to warp and crack as it dries. I burn, stain, and paint the surface to emphasize the marks left from my tools. The lines and textures carved in the wood are abstractions from the natural environment. I primarily work within squares, rectangles and grids; exploring relationships between the organic carving and the machined lines.
