Michelle Kwiecien

Drawing inspiration from the sentimental value imbued in objects such as family heirlooms, my work honors antiquity and ritual, celebrating objects as conduits of personal history. I am intrigued by the diverse tactile qualities of metal and how different material processes evoke emotion within my work. This is evident in my embellishment of serving utensils with delicate foliage etchings, evoking nostalgia, and wonder. Another example can be found in the basket flower vases, where I forge and weave brass elements together into basket forms, to the extent that, at first glance, they do not appear to be made of metal at all.
