About Suzanne Schmid
Remnants left by nature are found, unearthed, and given new life. Any structural damage that the specimen has is anatomically repaired with 23k gold. Some come from wildlife sanctuaries around the world, all ethically sourced. They are then mounted on one-of-a-kind pedestals or wall hangings that I construct with metal parts reclaimed from electric and aerospace salvage yards. I primarily use a cold connection technique to build my sculptures by way of nuts and bolts, and by grinding, drilling, folding, and machining parts to fit together for a seamless look. These pieces are modern-day reliquaries.
