About Jonathan Rutledge
I strive to create a sense of timeless beauty in my jewelry reminiscent of what one might see in a museum, but relative to what one would want to wear in today's world. I incorporate goldsmithing processes made famous by the Greeks and Etruscans and work primarily in high karat gold and gemstones. I use a technique in my work called granulation. This means that all of the patterns in my jewelry are made up of individually placed tiny gold granules that are fused in place. My work combines this technique along with chasing and repousse to create one-of-a-kind pieces that blend ancient design with contemporary style. I incorporate high karat gold alloys with precious stones and pearls to do so. When observing much of my work from a distance it appears rather simple in form or shape. With this said, I strive to give the viewer the feeling that there is more to see. A feeling that they must move closer to really understand what they are drawn to.
