About Amy Gillespie

I look to nature for inspiration and strive for movement and flow within my work, despite the slow painstaking reality of the making. My colors are super saturated and when coupled with the texture achieved from hand cutting each piece and using as a cross section  the work literally pulls people into them. As a process junkie, my art is both in the making of my materials, as well as in the actual compositions. I spend countless hours wet felting and cutting before I even start the artwork. With a palette knife, I apply acrylic medium tinted with a bit of paint to stiffen the edges, as well as adding even more color barriers. I spray the finished work with an archival UV protectant varnish. I do all woodworking related to my pieces.
