About Matin Malikzada
I am a 7th-generation Afghan potter. In 2021 I fled the Taliban. Now resettled in CT, I am rebuilding my practice as a working artist. Throughout my career, I have shown my work at markets, galleries, and museums and demonstrated my skills to dignitaries, artists, educators, students, and gallery-goers around the world. Inspired by my father and grandfather, my work is functional as well as decorative. My work is glazed in hues that reflect the earth’s natural palette. From preparing the clay to perfecting the form, to mixing and applying the glaze, each step in my process expresses a humble desire to create pieces that enhance an everyday meal or celebration.
