About Lori Katz
My work is an exploration of surface and texture, informed by the challenges and possibilities inherent in a lump of clay. I’m intrigued by contrast, the play of light, the pull of empty space, the placement of line and shape, balance, shadow. My current work is stoneware. Additions to the raw surface can include slips, stoneware inlay, high-temperature wire, recycled shards and remnants of some of my other pieces. Post firing additions can include acrylic paint, oil paint, cold wax, metal leaf and rust. Often, individual pieces become components in a larger composition as I consider the relationship of one piece to another. I go to sleep each night thinking about what I’ll make the next morning. I love what I do.
