Artist Talk
I create each sculpture as an action, a conduit to emotion through inquiry, recognition and familiarity. They are arenas for connection, resonance and reverberation. From this perspective I channel nature’s private stories so their secluded voices, spirits and soul-singings can be heard. Through aging and decay, I unearth how nature maintains its splendors with tenacity and triumphs of existence. At times, textures in clay complement the transparency of glass to signify our changing world. The tension between them expresses the dissonance between harmony and discord we encounter with others and our surroundings. Each organic creation is filled with literal and implied metaphor guided by Asian tea culture and wabi sabi philosophy. Vessel forms link humanity and nature as timelessly inseparable.
